2. Effect of site preparation technique on early growth and survival on a Pungo soil at Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge (PLNWR).

East West Canal at PLNWR

Planting site at Pocosin Lakes NWR, about 3 miles south of Phelps Lake in Washington Co. Canal is oriented east-west 0.5 mile north of County LineRoad. Picture was taken looking north. Wood residue is mostly Atlantic white cedar. Peat depth averages 7-9 ft - deeper in some places. Peat has been aged at about 7,500 years (Dr. Coartney Hackney, Univ. North Carolina at Wilmington). Soil series = Pungo.
