Flashboard riser on Boerma Canal at Pocosin Lakes NWR. The unit is made of aluminum, with two 6-ft diameter tubes, 40 ft long; and boards can be inserted or removed to control the water level. In 1999, one riser was installed in Boerma Canal 0.5 mile south of the intersection of County Line Rd and Boerma Rd. Later, another riser was installed at the abovementioned intersection, and a third riser about 1.5 miles north.
